1st Fraserburgh Boys BrigadeFraserburgh 1st boys and officers met with harbour master Thomas Boyle and Michael Murray last night to finally present a cheque for £4790.33. The money was raised by Company Section boys prior to COVID-19 as part of their charity badge work over two sessions. The money was raised to help purchase much needed sea bins for the harbour.

We hope you have been enjoying the summer break and the good news is we are planning to get back to face to face BB evenings hopefully in September. This is of course under constant review and dependent upon church hall being ready for use. We will keep you posted when more details are available.
Well done to the boys already taking part in the Battalion Summer Challenge, your efforts are keeping us well placed in the leader board.
To add a bit of fun and interest we hope you will take part in a fundraising challenge before the end of September. As you can imagine we need funds to support activities and we may need different resources until BBs can resume fully in their normal format as well as funds for our planned 100th Birthday Camp abroad.
Set yourself an active challenge such as a virtual walk, run, cycle or climb. Encourage family and friends to sponsor you if possible. Challenges could include setting a virtual destination eg Fraserburgh to Badaguish (101 miles) where we normally go for summer camp and record your daily progress using pen and paper or a phone app or fitbit weekly report. If you choose a climb then you can use a mountain and use the stairs or a step to complete your challenge eg
• Snowdon – 1,085 metres elevation or 5,425 steps up
• Scafell Pike – 964 metres elevation or 4,820 steps up
• Ben Nevis – 1,344 metres elevation or 6,720 steps up
Once you reach your goal collect your sponsor money!

Since we 1st spoke about the possibility of going abroad to celebrate 100 years of our Company, a lot has happened!
However, we have continued to plan for this exciting trip and I can update you with the following details:
We plan to –
We decided to plan for the October Holidays instead of the Summer Holidays to help keep the costs down.
The cost per person will be between £500 & £600. The more fundraising we can do, the lower the cost will be.
This is open to all boys who are currently in Company Section and to boys who will be in Company Section when the 2021-22 session starts in September 2021.

After we have final numbers and make the booking, we will require a £100 deposit per person.

Here is a little bit about out DofE Experience
So, it was back in March when we started our training in Strichen, we completed a 10 week (which ended up 12) which included Camp Craft, First Aid, Cooking, Map Work and others, which we got tested on to make sure we knew what we was doing. After we had completed our training, we went on to complete our Practice Hike, which started on Saturday 6th July In Maud where we walked from Maud to our camp at the Observatory near Mintlaw. Once we got there, we had to put up our tents and make out supper. After that we had time to have a look around the area. The next day we had to walk to the white cow woods which we did a lap of, after that we headed up Mormond hill before finishing in Strichen. Later that week we discussed what went well and what to improve. Then on the 31st September at the Linn of Dee Car Park (near Braemar) we began our Assessment hike which was over 30km long. During Day One, we had very bad rain which made the hike more challenging, but we all managed to reach Corrour Bothy which the leaders were staying. Once we arrived, we got our Tents up and got something hot to eat. Later that night we went to bed quite early so we could set off early the next day. The next morning, we set off towards Bob Scots Bothy where we stopped to have our Lunch. After our Lunch we continued walking back towards the cars where we were picked up by the Leaders. On our way home we stopped at Aboyne Chippers to get some ‘proper food’. We arrived home in the Broch just before 9pm on Sunday. We did our Presentations on September 10th in Strichen with a fair-sized audience. Everyone thought they were very good.
